Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says I'll try again tomorrow. - Mary Anne Rademacher

Chronically sick and self-centered

Looking at the world as an unfriendly place of constant discomfort, too hot, too cold, or too awkward to navigate becomes the 'normal' experience when living with a progressive form of multiple sclerosis.  It seems like there is no pause to the physical insults suffered as a result of  this disabling illness.

It is the responsibility of the chronically sick person to manage their attitude.  You can't afford negative thoughts about your situation because it can only serve to make you more unhappy.  It can be a constant internal struggle to maintain an upbeat attitude and hope for the future.

Acknowledging the effect your illness is having on your loved ones requires stepping outside of the anxieties, fearfulness, and despair that clouds your thinking.

Instead of getting lost in self-pity you need to think of the feelings of the other people in your life.  Particularly, your spouse and close family.  They have been forced to give up many of their dreams to stay in a relationship with you.
